GREENSBOR, N.C. – The semifinals of the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament begin Friday evening at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Fans say the tournament is a lot quieter this year both inside and outside the coliseum.
“Looking at the stands, its just very few people. It was very odd, but still thankful to be back,” says Virginia Tech fan Matt Sink.
The parking lot reserved for RVs usually has about 35 RVs, but this year there are only four. Tailgaters are also happy to be back despite the major difference in attendance.
“It feels dead, honestly. It’s a little bit sad you know. Like I said, in a pandemic, I think we’re just blessed to be out here getting to enjoy the outdoors and even be able to watch two teams play basketball today is really a blessing,” says N.C. State fan David McCallum.
There are four teams left in the tournament with the semi-finals kicking off Friday at 6:30 p.m. Duke University dropped out after a player tested positive for COVID-19 after Wednesday’s game.
There have been just below 3,000 people attending each session and tickets are sold out.
