DURHAM – Kamala Subramaniam, a graduate of North Carolina State University, is the site lead for the Google engineering hub being created in Durham, Google disclosed Wednesday. And she notes that Google is looking for talent.

“Google Cloud is hiring in Durham, North Carolina!” she notes at LinkedIn. Google announced the engineering hub in May and plans to hire over time some 1,000 workers.

“We are hiring Software Engineers across all levels for our infrastructure platform across networking, storage, security.”

The earner of both an MS and a Phd in Computer Engineering at NCSU, she is “responsible for growing Google Cloud’s presence in North Carolina and building an ecosystem of academia, the industry, and the local communities,” Google said. “Kamala will focus on research, scientific discovery, and technological advancement, all with a keen focus on diversity and inclusion.”

Subramaniam brings more than engineering skills and knowledge of the Triangle to the job. Google notes that she also “is an avid theater actor and loves horseback riding.”

According to her bio, Subramaniam “began her career at Google in 2016 in the Bay Area where she was an engineering leader for Google’s infrastructure networks. Kamala works on the scalability, efficiency, and reliability of all of Google’s networks – Data Center Networks, B4 private datacenter networks, B2 internet facing WAN, and the Cloud Network. Her experience is in building strongly performant engineering teams that work on large scale distributed systems that are geographically distributed. Kamala is also the Diversity & Inclusion leader for Google Networking, passionate about hiring and growing underrepresented talent in her organizations.”
