More fiber for NC: MetroNet to build network in New Bern

NEW BERN – MetroNet, a provider of fiber network services, is expanding its footprint in North Carolina.

The Indiana-based company announced plans for a netowrk it described as a “multi-million-dollar investment” in New Bern, making it a “gigabit city.” Services will include internet, TV and phone.

“MetroNet provides customers with access to gigabit speeds that support working, learning, and streaming from home with ease and clarity,” said CEO John Cinelli in the announcement.

Earlier this year MetroNet announced plans for network builds in Fayetteville and Hickory.

“New Bern is one step closer to becoming a Gigabit City and we are looking forward to working with MetroNet to provide another choice for our residents and businesses,” said New Bern Mayor Dana Outlaw. “With the implementation of MetroNet’s 100 percent fiber optic network, the City of New Bern will experience the benefits of modern technology for years and years.”

The first customers are expected to receive service in spring of next year.
