Angier man accused of presenting fraudulent medical receipt in insurance claim

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Malachi Elijah Robinson, 21, of 217 Paula Drive, Angier. Robinson is charged with insurance fraud and attempting to obtain property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Robinson of attempting to obtain $7,500 from Integon National Insurance Co. in an automobile insurance claim by providing a fraudulent medical receipt and statement.

The offenses occurred on June 11.

Special agents arrested Robinson on Oct. 18. He was released under $150,000 unsecured bond.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime; we all pay for it through higher insurance premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “Help us keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspected fraud.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may report fraud anonymously by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840. Information is also available at
