Cary crash leaves pedestrian dead, driver charged

Cary police are currently investigating a tragic crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of N. Harrison Avenue and Hillsboro Street. According to reports, a woman was crossing N. Harrison Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle. The victim was rushed to a hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries.

Late in the evening, authorities sadly confirmed that the pedestrian, identified as Amy Marie Delettre, 37, of Raleigh, succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the involved vehicle, identified as Richard Yoneoka, 82, of Cary, remained at the scene. Yoneoka has been charged with one count of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. The incident underscores the serious consequences of pedestrian accidents and the need for caution on the roads. N. Harrison Avenue has since reopened to traffic.
