PILOT MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Crews are working to put out a fire on Pilot Mountain.
According to the Pilot Knob Fire Department, the fire began Saturday night, but firefighters don’t know how it started.
The fire expanded to around 100 acres as of Sunday morning, officials said.
The park campground at Pilot Mountain was evacuated, and officials say no civilians or homes are in direct danger.
No injuries or damaged structures were reported, but NC Foresty Service officials say there is some concern about structures in the park.
Multiple agencies responded to the fire, including the state’s forestry service.
“Approx 50 men and women dropped what they were doing and came to help,” the Pilot Knob Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook. “This is an ever changing fire and we will try to keep the community as updated as possible.”
