Albemarle man accused of identity theft

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Deandre Niko Holmes, 28, of 2000 Woodhaven Drive, Albemarle. Holmes was charged with identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense, both felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Holmes of using another man’s Social Security card and driver’s license to obtain renters’ insurance from State Farm Fire and Casualty Co.

According to the arrest warrant, the offense occurred on March 13.

Holmes was arrested on Nov. 7 and released by Mecklenburg County authorities under a $2,000 secured bond.

“I encourage the public to be aware of insurance scams and report suspected scams or insurance fraud immediately by calling 919-807-6840 or toll free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684,” Commissioner Causey said.
