Durham man faces murder charge in 2022 case where body was found in trunk of car

Durham police have apprehended a suspect in connection with a 2022 homicide where the victim was discovered deceased inside the trunk of a car. Jamaree Green, 20, of Durham, has been arrested and charged with the murder of 39-year-old Jivon Cherry.

Jivon Cherry’s lifeless body was found on September 13, 2022, at the Falls Pointe Apartments on Glen Falls Drive, situated off South Alston Avenue and TW Alexander Drive.

Green faces charges of first-degree murder and felony conspiracy, with the initial charges filed on June 26. Despite being on the run, he was eventually arrested by the Georgia State Patrol on August 15 for the outstanding warrants. In Georgia, Green faced additional charges related to fleeing a traffic stop and leading troopers on a high-speed chase.

Recently, Durham Police officers transported Green from Georgia to the Durham County Jail, where he is currently held without bond.

The circumstances surrounding the crime, including whether the suspect and victim had any prior connection, remain undisclosed. The cause of death has not been revealed either, causing concerns among apartment residents about potential escalation in crime.

While the arrest may bring some relief to residents, the police have not provided details about the relationship between the suspect and the victim or whether the incident was targeted. Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact Investigator A. Ramos or CrimeStoppers.
