Maxton woman charged with insurance fraud

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Amber Lee Chancey, 35, of 922 Alma Road, Maxton. Chancey was charged with insurance fraud, a felony.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Chancey of providing false and misleading information in an automobile insurance policy claim with Progressive Premier Insurance Co. of Illinois, including reporting inaccurate dates of when the damage occurred.

In addition, according to the arrest warrant, Chancey had previously reported the same damage in a claim with a different insurance company.

The offense occurred on July 8.

Special agents arrested Chancey on Sept. 20. She was released under $5,000 unsecured bond.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime; we all pay for it through higher insurance premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “Help us keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspected fraud.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may report fraud anonymously by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840. Information is also available at www.ncdoi.gov.
