North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced that Martha Jeffries Inman, 68, and her son, Cecil Dwayne Roberson, 43, both of 150 Whitney Lane, Stoneville, were charged with insurance fraud.

Inman was also charged with obtaining property by false pretense. Robinson was also charged with aiding and abetting Inman in obtaining property by false pretense. All the charges are felonies.

Special Agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Inman of obtaining $10,635.19 from Allstate Property and Casualty Insurance Co. by falsely telling the insurance company that her car and truck had been struck multiple times by deer and other animals. Roberson is accused of presenting a statement supporting his mother’s comprehensive insurance claim.

The offenses occurred between Oct 15, 2019, and Jan. 10, 2021.

Inman was served with a criminal summons on Aug. 18. Roberson was arrested on Aug. 19.

“It’s estimated that property and casualty insurance fraud costs insurance customers $120 billion a year in increased premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “The Department of Insurance has reinforced its criminal investigations procedures and personnel in an effort to make more arrests to keep fraud from driving up insurance costs.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may report fraud anonymously by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840. Information is also available at www.ncdoi.gov.
