Sylva man charged with obstruction of justice, false pretense

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Carol Dean Moore, 59, of 65 Fugitive Run, Sylva. Moore is charged with two counts of obstructing justice and one count of obtaining property by false pretense, all felonies.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Moore of bailing an inmate out of a Macon County jail twice using expired power of attorney paperwork.

According to the arrest warrant, Moore received $600 from the inmate for his bail bond services.

The offense occurred on Jan. 10.

Macon County deputies arrested Moore on May 20. He was given a $15,000 secured bond pending a June 3 appearance in Macon County District Court.
