Wake County woman accused of insurance fraud for filing the same claim with two insurance companies

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of Jalissa Lynnette Buie, 28, of 6157 Neuse Wood Drive, Raleigh. Buie was charged with two counts of felony insurance fraud.

Special agents with the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division accuse Buie of filing renters’ insurance claims for the same theft with two different insurance companies, Liberty Mutual Insurance and Homesite Insurance Co., on June 20.

According to the arrest warrant, on June 24, Buie denied to Liberty that she had other insurance policies or had previously filed other claims. On July 21, she denied to Homesite that she had ever filed any other insurance claims for a theft.

Buie turned herself in to the Johnston County Magistrates’ office on Dec. 6. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bond.

“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime; we all pay for it through higher insurance premiums,” said Commissioner Causey. “Help us keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspected fraud.”

If you suspect insurance fraud or other white-collar crimes, please report it. You may report fraud anonymously by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840. Information is also available at www.ncdoi.gov.
