Firefighters battle 2 early morning fires in Durham

Durham authorities are currently investigating two residential fires that occurred in the early hours.

Emergency responders were dispatched to address a fire in the 2800 block of Chelsea Circle shortly after 4 a.m. The Durham Fire Department reported that upon arrival, firefighters observed flames originating from the first floor and substantial smoke emerging from the second floor. The firefighting teams successfully managed to contain the blaze within a span of 20 minutes.

Fortunately, there were no occupants present during the incident. The residence suffered extensive damage, including fire, heat, and smoke effects on a significant portion of the first floor and approximately half of the second floor.

A subsequent call led the Durham Fire Department to another fire around 5 a.m., this time in the 200 block of Enterprise Street. A total of 37 firefighters were involved in suppressing the flames, achieving control within 10 minutes.

Despite three individuals being inside the second property at the time, all managed to evacuate safely, and no injuries were reported. Similar to the first incident, substantial damage occurred, affecting the first floor significantly and causing smoke and heat damage to the second floor.

Both incidents are presently under investigation to determine the causes of the fires.
