Guilford County now has a new animal shelter

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The Guilford County Animal Resource Center is now officially open to the public.

What You Need To Know

The facility includes six dog adoption areas and two cat adoption areas

It offers full veterinary service and makes the adoption process easier

It is now open to the public and can be found on 980 Guilford College Rd.

On Friday, animal shelter administration and staff, along with city leaders, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its opening.

The new, $15 million, 33,000-square-foot facility will be able to house 550 cats and dogs. It will also include six dog adoption areas and two cat adoption areas.

The facility also offers full veterinary services, and the building is designed to make adoptions easier and the care of injured strays and unadoptable animals more manageable.

Director of Guilford County Animal Services Jorge Ortega said the long road to open their doors was well worth it. Seeing how the animals’ demeanors have changed since being moved from their old facility to the new has made this rewarding.

“Change is not easy and in these four years it has been stressful, it hasn’t been a cake walk. The challenges, criticisms and demands have been difficult and at times I thought about giving up, but I knew that giving up on the animals of Guilford County wasn’t an option,” Ortega said.

The new facility is on 980 Guilford College Rd. and more information can be found here
