Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey to honor Harnett County teenager with heroism award on Monday


RALEIGH

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey on Monday, May 2, will honor a Harnett County teenager for the heroic efforts he displayed to save an elderly woman from choking.

According to news reports, Anson Everette, a junior at Harnett Central High School, used the Heimlich maneuver to save an 80-year-old woman who was choking at a Hardee’s restaurant in Lillington.

Everett learned these life-skills through training he received at Harnett Central High School’s fire tech program. He wants to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a firefighter. During the presentation, Commissioner Causey will also recognize fire tech program instructor Jonathan Denton.

The award presentation will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Harnett Central High School, 2911 Harnett Central Road., Angier, N.C.
